Sharon set for Strictly

Sharon Osbourne

Looking forward to another series of The X Factor without the braying, obnoxious presence of Sharon ‘drunk auntie at a wedding’ Osbourne? You are? Well, you might want to keep your TV firmly tuned to ITV1 – the outspoken 56-year-old has signed up to appear on Strictly Come Dancing.

"Sharon is already a huge name in TV and music, so she is perfect for the show," gushed a clearly delighted BBC source. "The fact she has been on X Factor means she is sure to have plenty to say when the two shows launch.

"Sharon verbally agreed the deal several days ago and will sign contracts in the coming weeks. She is so excited she is already telling her friends. [Simon] Cowell won't thank her."

Now that’s the understatement of the year. The two shows traditionally go head to head in an almighty ratings battle on prime-time Saturday night TV, and Sharon will be keen to get one over on her former employer.

Sharon quit The X Factor in 2007 after failing to talk Simon into giving her a £1m contract, though she also cited fellow judge Dannii Minogue as an important factor in her decision. “I didn’t enjoy working with her at all and didn’t fancy spending six months sitting next to her,” she told Piers Morgan in an interview. Her place was eventually taken by Geordie songbird Cheryl Cole.

Sharon is set to land £100,000 for her stint alongside Brucie and Tess. Whether the Great British Public will take her to their hearts remains to be seen.
